The Hardy Building was built in 1914 by W. H. Hardy.
W. H. Hardy and his son Elmer ran a successful hardware store named W. H. Hardy & Son Hardware selling hardware, farm equipment, stoves, etc.  At one time, it was advertised as the largest hardware store this side of the Ohio River. It remained a hardware store until the early 1960s.

The Hardy Building is located in Markleville, Indiana.
Markleville was laid out by John Markle in 1852. It was incorporated as a town in 1912.
